Maslenitsa, which roughly translates to “Butter Week,” is an ancient Slavic celebration marking the return of spring. After a long winter, Russians are in a festive mood and are happy to celebrate all together the end of the cold season. The custom is to cook pancakes - a symbol of the sun.
